If you are a cricket fan, you were probably sitting on a couch watching inane pre-game shows, bantering excitedly on WhatsApp groups with friends about the state of the match, and finally, despondent (if an India supporter) or delighted (if an Australia fanatic) at the outcome.

To both these sets of supporters, I say this — you have given your heart and passion to a version of cricket which, as it is played today, is a lie.

But Why Should You Listen To me

I have been an ODI cricket watcher since before I became a teenager. I watched all three ODIs between India and South Africa welcoming South Africa back into the cricketing family at the end of their apartheid era.
