For one, Hamas does not speak for all of Palestine. it shares that responsibility with PA in the West Bank. Israel, otoh, has an elected government with a seat in the community of nations and therefore, must be seen to act responsibly. Surely this isn't too much to ask for?

Next: If you reread what I wrote about India, you will notice that I didn't blame India for anything. I only pointed out that Indian society has, in the past, acted similarly to how Israel is currently responding - by killing members of a community just because they were members of that community, not because they were responsible for any wrong doing.

Should Hamas release hostages? Should Israeli settlers stop occupying Palestinian lands? Should Hamas stop killing Israeli civilians? Should Israel allow Palestinian civilians to live and work amongst them without an apartheid like system of permits and checkpoints? Tough questions for both parties, imho.
